I started training with Coach Soria in 2011 to prepare for the Chicago Marathon. This was my third marathon and I wanted to learn how to avoid the perpetual “bonk” at mile 20 that I knew so well. Throughout my training, Coach Soria had me doing things I never did before – or things I never I could do! He helped me break through barriers – both mental and physical. He inspired me to want more, to be more, and to always “trust my training!” That day in Chicago I qualified for the Boston Marathon (And cut over 30 minutes off my time!). In early 2014, I had a calf injury that sidelined me and I was unable to run for months. I was in a dark place – frustrated, scared and unsure of myself. Running had defined me in so many ways and I felt lost. Coach Soria took me from “injured runner” to triathlete in less than six months. He helped me find a way to train again through swimming, biking and eventually running.  He helped me every step of the way and reminding me how far I’d come on my journey. I crossed the finish line at Austin 70.3 in 5:48:35. I’m so thankful for Coach Soria’s direction, guidance and support that led me to “TRI!” He really has made me the (tri)athlete I am today. I’m still on cloud nine from finishing my first Ironman in Louisville.  It was one of the best days of my life – a day I’ll always remember. I can’t thank Coach Soria enough for making this day possible for me. About a month before the event I got very sick – scary sick and didn’t know if I was going to be able to complete. Coach Soria checked on me every day (sometimes twice!) to see how I was doing. He changed my workout schedule, adjusted nutrition and calmed me down ensuring me everything was going to be ok – “We have time!”  He would say. It was exactly what I needed to hear, when I needed to hear it.  I was no longer worried, and simply concentrated on getting better. He is one of the most positive, encouraging and inspiring people I know. No challenge is too big and no obstacle out of reach.  Not only is he one of the most knowledgeable people I know on athletics,  but his spirit and love for this sport are contagious. On October 11, 2015 I became an Ironman in 12:35:36 – and the first person I saw at the finish was Coach Soria jumping up and down, hands in the air. He looked so excited, happy and proud. We did it!
