Many times, people assume that because Coach Soria has qualified for Kona and coaches many top age group athletes he must only coach fast triathletes and runners. While his clients do tend to be on the podium quite often, Coach Soria also knows how to coach athletes like myself. Okay, I’m using the term “athlete” loosely here. Although I might not technically be a beginner anymore, I am definitely not like most of his athletes. Coach Soria coached me through my first half marathon, a half Ironman, and two Goofy Challenge events (half marathon Saturday followed by a marathon Sunday). There’s been many races in-between, but Coach Soria has always been supportive when I wanted to take on a new distance. My goal is always much more about finishing than setting any time records and I always need lots of coaching to make it to the start line. I am definitely a testament to Coach Soria’s patience (he has a lot!), flexibility in coaching different personalities, and ability to understand an athlete that has very modest goals.
